Abstract
597,987. Blow-pipe burners. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. Aug. 25, 1945, No. 21857. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1944. Addition to 585,952. [Class 75 (i)] The blow-pipe nozzle of the parent Specification is modified by providing a single fuel gas chamber 30 on either side of the central oxygen passage 0, fuel gas being discharged through a narrow elongated slot 32 parallel to the longer axis of the oblong oxygen discharge orifice 16. The front end of the body B and the cap C are provided with slots 20, 24 wider than the orifice 1.6 so that a step 22 is formed to divert a portion of the oxygen stream as a current fringe to mix with the acetylene. The cap C is supported on the front face of the body B by portions 36 of the body, and may be removably secured by a fillet weld 38 which can be melted to remove the cap, the slot 24 of which is bevelled at 29 so that a cleaning tool may be inserted in the slots 32. The chambers 30 are formed by milling recesses into the front wall of the body, the bottom of each recess sloping at an angle of about 30 degrees towards the rear, and the broached-out side walls 17 of the oxygen passage are preferably inclined at an angle of about 15 degrees.
