596,356. Coupling devices. ORAIN, F. M. Jan. 16, 1940, No. 949. Convention date, March 3, 1939. [Classes 44, 65 (ii) and 89 (ii)] A coupling for two mechanical elements comprises a clamping jaw 1 connected to one element 3 and a second jaw 4 which clamps a member, such as a ball 5, against the jaw 1, the member 5 being connected to the second element 6. The jaw is carried by a rod 2 screwed to a sleeve 8, and the jaw 4 is carried by a sleeve 7 screwed to 8. The threads may be of opposite or differential pitch. Rotation of sleeve 8 adjusts the relative position of the jaws. A spring 9 is arranged between the jaw 1 and the sleeve 8. In another form one of the elements is the end of a cable, and in another one is a hook, in another a chain link.
