589,816. Percussive tools. SECKHAM, C. C., and SECKHAM, C. P. Oct. 4, 1944, No. 18975. [Class 124] [Also in Group XXXV] A spark-proof magnetically-operated percussive tool for use with intermittent alternating current comprises a laminatediron movable core a having a non-magnetic steel centre b enlarged at the striking end b<1> to form or receive a hammer head or striker. The core a is provided with guides a<1> running in grooves in non-magnetic members c connected to the laminated outer parts d. A coil d<1> energizes the solenoid to move the core a against the action of a spring e. The casing f carries a magnetic switch i of the kind which is closable by a main switch on the handle g but which, when the main switch is released, remains held in position magnetically during the short period current is flowing, and is then opened by its spring. The switch i may be associated with a small condenser. As shown, the casing f carries a limited-movement tool h.
