Abstract
573,919. Dock gates. HEAD, WRIGHTSON, & CO., Ltd., WALKER, F. J., and WRIGHTSON, SIR T. G. Dec. 17, 1943, No. 21228. [Class 68 (ii)] A dock gate is formed from heel and mitre posts and a number of horizontal units extending between them, the posts being formed with machined interfitting joints so that they can be secured together on the site. As shown, the heel post 1 is formed with a flat to which a channel iron 5 is attached, a similar channel iron being attached to the mitre post (not shown). The horizontal units are each formed by a spaced pair of plate girders 6 with their webs 8 horizontal, and with their flanges 9 on one or both sides connected by plates 7, so as in the latter case to form box girders. The flanges 9 are cut away at their ends, and the plates 7 extend beyond the cut-away portions, so forming a tongue and groove connection with the flanges of the channel irons 5 ; the mating portions are machined at the factory so that they may be readily assembled at the site and secured as by welding or riveting. The horizontal units or box girders are spaced by sections of vertical diaphragms 10 secured to them, the gaps between them being subsequently closed by attaching additional plates similar to the plates 7, thus completing the skin of the gate.
