Abstract
579,992. Gloves. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Dec. 8, 1943, No. 20560. Convention date, Oct. 17, 1942. [Class 141] A glove, particularly one adapted to be attached to and inflated with a high altitude flying suit, is provided with reinforcing means in the palm portion along the lines of natural flexure of the hand, so as to prevent bulging of the palm portion away from the hand when the glove is inflated, without hindering free bending of the hand. As shown, the glove comprises a rubber covering 20 and a stockinette lining 18 Wires 11, 12 are laid between these layers along the joint of the fingers with the palm, a wire 13 runs around the base of the thumb, and a wire 14 hinged to the wire 13 at 28 runs diagonally across the palm. The wires run to the back of the glove and are covered by strips 32 of rubber or the like. The ends of the wires and the hinge 2b are protected by rubber pads stuck to the lining. A gauntlet portion 17 is attached to the glove by an overlapping joint 17a, and has at its outer. end a coupling for attaching it in an airtight manner to a flying suit. An opening which extends along the gauntlet and the back of the glove is closed by a bellows insertion 37 of rubber and fabric and a sliding fastener 38 held in place by rubber strips 39. This construction facilitates donning the glove and reduces bulging of the back of the glove under inflation
