This invention relates to a combination trench coat,.cape, and hood; and has for its primary object the provision of a structure that is adapted to slip over the shoulder portion of the trench coat and cooperate with the trench coat in such a manner that rain cannot leak between the neck portion of the cape and trench coat.

The cape and hood, as well as the trench coat, is formed of waterproof fabric, and both are lined on the inside with silk or wool, or a moisture, sweat-proof material.

One of the distinct features of this invention is the manner in which the cape and trench coat is secured together. The improved cape assumes a shape similar to a bolero jacket, and the sleeves and cape are of the same length.

Another feature of this combination is the novel manner in which the hood lies flat between the cape and shoulder portion of the coat when not in use.

The coat and cape are so joined that bulging or puckering at the chin or neck portion will not occur.

A drawstring is adapted to fit within a sheath formed around the entire marginal edge of the hood, and the tightening end of this drawstring will assist the hood in conforming to the contour of the wearers face.

Many combinations of hoods and coats have been designed, as well as combinations of capes and hoods, but none of the previous combinations have provided as adequate protection against the weather as the present combination.

This invention presents a combination that can be used as a cape and coat, or as a cape, hood, and coat, since all of these elements can be secured together and readily and easily detached without any undue inconvenience or objectionable tearing or straining of the three.

With the above and numerous other objects in view, the invention will be described more in detail, the novel features of which will be only limited by the appended claims.

Reference now being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof, wherein:

The invention consists of a trench coat 20, over the shoulder portion of which is worn a cape 2|, having a hood 22 attached thereto.

The cape 2| is provided with a body portion 23, which is about the length of a bolero jacket, having sleeves 24 of the same length as the body portion 23.

The hood 22 is joined to the body portion 23 at the rear of the body portion at approximately the medial point thereof, as shown at 25, and is provided with two wing portions 26, which are fastened in front of the neck and retained in place by buttons 21 and buttonholes 28.

A sheath 29, having grommets 30, is provided to retain a drawstring 3| therein. This draw string is adapted to draw the hood closely about the head and conform the opening to the contour of the wearers face.

The cape is provided with loops 32 and buttons 33, which are adapted to receiving ofiicers shoulder straps 34, when the coat is to be worn by ofiicers in the Army. If the coat is to be worn by enlisted men, the straps 34 are omitted.

The hood and cape can be lined with wool or silk, but it is preferable to line it with moisture-proof material 35. When the cape and hood are worn, the sleeves 36 of the trench coat 20 are inserted into the sleeves 24 of the cape, and the cape will then conform to the shoulders of the trench coat and afford adequate protection against the weather.

It the hood is not required, it can be folded under the cape, as shown in Fig. 11, and the outward appearance of the combination will appear as shown in Fig. 1.

The collar 31 of the trench coat 20 will be drawn around the wearers neck, and a second collar 38 under collar 31 will cover the opening between the cape 2| and coat 2t, and prevent any rain from driving or dripping onto the trench This is,

coat at the neck band and shoulders. a very important feature of the invention, be cause it is a, double protection against the rain, and will prevent any moisture from coming into contact with the shoulder of the coat or the neck of the wearer.

The cape is retained in place on the coat by means of buttonholes 39 on the cape and buttons 40 on the coat, and fastened in front by It is to be understood that the details of construction shown and described may be changed without departing from the spirit and nature of the invention and it is intended that such changes be included within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In combination with a trench coat having 'a Wide collar, 9. narrow collar exteriorly oi the wide collar, a cape. and co-acting fasteners secured at the neck edge of the cape and beneath the narrow collar at the neck line of the coat for detachedly securing the cape to the coat.

2. In combination with a trench coat having a wide collar, 9, narrow collar exteriorly of the wide collar, a cape, co-acting fasteners secured to the neck edge or the cape and beneath the narrow collar at the neck line of the coat for detachedly securing the cape to the coat, and a hood having on y its rear edge attached to the ca at the medial portion thereof, the remainins edge of the hood being free, whereby the hood may be folded upon itself and folded against the interior of the coat.
