Abstract

574,816. Thermo-electric batteries. EATON MANUFACTURING CO. June 25, 1943, No. 10306. Convention date April 1. [Class 53] [Also in Group XII] A thermo-electric generator is made with a heating chamber defined by a hollow member comprising a series of substantially coaxial refractory rings 14 having registering grooves extending thereacross for receiving a plurality of thermocouples 15 extending therethrough into the heating chamber 17. The rings are shaped to interlock with each other and a substantially gas-tight seal is formed by refractory cement between the rings and around the thermocouples. The thermocouple junctions are coated with nickel or chromium. The several thermocouples are connected in various ways, for example in a combination of series and parallel connected groups. The several rings are clamped together and enclosed in an outer tube 18 associated with other apparatus in a manner similar to that described in Specification 562,946. The tubular heating chamber 17 within the rings contains an air supply tube 60 with a funnel 62 at one end into which air is blown by an electric fan 57. The other end 61 of the tube is closed and tapered, and lateral openings are made in the tube and provided with baffles 63 to direct the air into the combustion space.
