Abstract

563,566. Cycle locks. SAXBY, R. N. Jan. 5, 1943, No. 169. [Class 44] [Also in Group XXXI]. A cycle-locking device comprises a body member 8, 9 secured to one of the fork tubes 10 or other fixed part adjacent a moving part such as one of the road wheels,. and a normally separate looking bar 1 co-operating with the body member and with another fixed part such as the other fork tube 5 to obstruct the passage or rotation of the moving part or wheel, the arrangement being such that the locking bar when in operative position also co-operates with the other fixed part. 5 to ensure that independently of the normal securing means the body member cannot be detached unless the bar 1 is unlocked. In the construction shown the body member 8, 9 is secured to the fork tube 10 by clamp 11 tightened by a screw 13 and nut 12. The body part 9 is provided with lugs 14 projecting beyond the clamp 11, so that when the locking bar 1 is inserted and is prevented from being withdrawn by catches 15, 16 engaging a notch 7 in the bar these lugs prevent the clamps from being bent or pulled off the body member even if the screw and nut 13, 12 have been removed. As the bar 1 is pushed into the body member 8, 9 its tapered end 21 engages the upper right-hand ends of the spring-loaded catches 15, 16 and depresses them until the notches 7 allow the ends of the catches to rise and lock the bar. To unlock the bar a key 3 is inserted in the body member from the right and slopes on the key raise the left ends of the catches just sufficiently to withdraw the right ends from the notches 7 without causing the left ends to enter notches 6 in the bar.
