Abstract

563,155. Pipe couplings. BLAKEBOROUGH, R. A., and KLOUMAN, F. A. April 13, 1943, No. 5894. [Class 99 (i)] An adaptor for coupling a standpipe with a screwed socket to a hydrant having a bayonetjoint outlet comprises a tubular member b, screw-threaded at b<1> for engaging the standpipe socket and at a<2> for engaging a collar a having radial bayonet lugs a<1>. A sleeve g is held by clips h in a recess between the collar and member b. A transversely tapered recess e houses a spring-pressed roller f retained by a spring ring j. The adaptor is screwed into the standpipe which is engaged with the hydrant outlet by clockwise rotation which is continued when the lugs a<1> are held until the gasket d rl engages the hydrant seating. On contraclockwise rotation the roller jams in the recess and the standpipe is unscrewed leaving the adaptor in the hydrant from which it is released by removing the sleeve g.
