Abstract

561,037. Two-part couplings. CROFTEN & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., C., and MANN, R. W. Dec. 10, 1942, No. 17617. [Class 38 (i)] A plug-and-socket coupling has a helical spring interposed between the surfaces of the plug and the socket and housed in a helical groove in one of the surfaces. The socket 12 has a groove 18 of a pitch sufficiently different from that of the spring 20 to ensure good contact between the socket and the spring, and the diameter of the helix is such as to make good contact between the spring and the plug 22 which is a loose fit in the socket. The sockets 14 for a pilot circuit can be similarly constructed. The depth of the groove allows transverse movement of the spring to compensate for lack of alignment of the plug and socket contacts.
