Abstract
560,450. Centrifugal separators. STEVENS, A. H. (Hardinge Co. Inc.). March 18, 1942, No. 3628. [Class 23] Materials from a grinding mill are entrained in a stream of air passing up a vertical pipe 4 into a cyclone with a central horizontal outlet 34. The in-going stream passes round an arcuate wall 33 which defines an inner whirling chamber. The wall of the cyclone includes a hinged portion 29, which may be perforated, which can be moved between positions 29A and 29B. A flap valve 28 can be moved into the up-going stream and then causes a part of the stream to enter the cyclone through the valve port and oppose the main stream within the cyclone. The valve can also be moved to the position 28B and then permits some of the stream that has passed round within the cyclone to enter the main stream for a further passage. The large separated particles fall through a cone 31 and a counter stream of pure air may be supplied through a pipe 21 to the annular space outside the cone, or a portion of the entraining stream may be supplied through a passage 21<1>. Pure air may also be supplied to the up-going stream through a pipe 20. Specifications 257,568 and 263,820, [both in Class 23], are referred to.
