Abstract

Sheets of foraminous plastics, e.g. alkyl acrylate or methacrylate polymers, polyvinyl compounds, polyalkylenes, polystyrenes, cellulose ethers or esters, synthetic resins, rubber, rubber substitutes, &c. are made by heating a solid plastic sheet or body at normal atmospheric pressure by a high frequency electric field applied by contacting the plastic sheet with conducting electrodes so that it is softened and gases or vapours are generated in it whereupon it is cooled and solidified as a very light solidified foam. Specifications 143,253, 189,639, 189,973, [all in Class 2 (ii)], 518,517, [Group V], and 555,054, [Group VIII], are referred to.ALSO:Sheets of foraminous plastics, e.g. alkyl acrylate or methacrylate polymers, polyvinyl compounds, polyalkylenes, polystyrenes, cellulose ethers or esters, synthetic resins, rubber, rubber substitutes, &c. are made by heating a solid plastic sheet or body at normal atmospheric pressure by a high frequency electric field applied by contacting the plastic sheet with conducting electrodes so that it is softened and gases or vapours are generated in it whereupon it is cooled and solidified as a very light solidified foam.
