Abstract
5-p-Aminobenzene-sulphonamido-thiazole is prepared by heating with aqueous alkali a 5-p-acylamino - benzenesulphonamido - thiazole - 2 - nitrile or by heating with aqueous alkali and a lead salt a 5-p-acylamino-benzenesulphonamido-thiazole - 2 - thioamide. The preferred acyl radicals are acetyl and propionyl which are easily removed. Acyl radicals such as benzoyl which are difficult to remove, are preferably avoided. In an example, 5 - p - acetylamino - benzene-sulphonamido-thiazole-2-thioamide is dissolved in an aqueous 10 per cent solution of sodium hydroxide and lead carbonate added. The reaction mixture is refluxed and filtered to form 5-p-aminobenzene-sulphonamido-thiazole. Specification 569,220 is referred to.
