541,815. Casein. DAWSON, F., ELSON, L. A., MOILLIET, J. L., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 11, 1940, No. 10161. [Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group XXI] Casein is hydrolysed with an aqueous caustic alkali to such an extent that after being neutralized a 50 per cent solution does not gel at room temperatures, e.g. by adding an acidprecipitated casein to a dilute, aqueous solution of an alkali-metal hydroxide and maintaining a temperature of 85-90‹C. for 1-4 hours.
