A pivoted flap r can be set so that the gases can pass from either or both of the passages n, o to the outlet q. The burner tap may be so connected to the flap that the former can only be turned on if gases can pass from the passage o to the chimney. The chamber j and passages i may be replaced by a, single passage tapering upwardly and provided with fins and a baffle.
