Abstract

567,673. Winding thread. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and HAMPSON, C. H. Aug. 20, 1943, No. 4896/44. Divided out of Complete Specification of 560,637. [Class] 120 (ii)] Apparatus for winding thread into packages tapered at each end comprises a rotating roller C adapted to receive the thread, a thread guide N carried by an arm M adapted to reciprocate along an axis parallel with the roller so that the thread guide traverses the package, and a collar K swingable about the axis and carrying a rod J engaging the slot H of a lever E pivoted to the traverse rail D<1> so as to be oscillated about a fulcrum L, the collar being thus reciprocated and moving the arm along the axis while the roller is carried in a cradle U which moves away from the thread guide as the package grows and so moves the rod J in the slot H towards the fulcrum thereof to shorten the traverse of the thread guide. As shown, the thread guide is held out of contact with, but in close proximity to, the package, the collar K is disposed between bifurcations of the arm M on a shaft D<2>. which constitutes the axis and is rigidly connected to the traverse rail D<1> by pillars d<1>, d<2>, and the cradle U carries a rod Z bearing against a weighted rod Y attached to the collar K ; a short shaft O secured to the pillars d<1>, d<2> passes through the arm M and prevents it swinging about the shaft D<2>. The fulcrum L may be adjustable lengthwise of the lever E and may be reciprocated in a direction parallel with the rail D<1>. Specification 560,657 is referred to.
