Abstract
567,185. Axle-box bearings. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd., BATE, J., and JACKSON, F. W. April 28, 1943, No. 6709. [Class 12 (i)] Multi-metal liners are used in close contact with axle-boxes of iron or steel. The liner may comprise a steel or bronze backing 12 and a cast or sintered facing 13 of tin-base or leadbase alloy, and an intermediate layer of bronze or similar alloy may be used as an emergency bearing. The liner 11 may be held in position by the applied load or it may be located within the housing 10 by turning up its edges or lugs 14 on the edges to engage the housing or by screw studs passing through the lugs into the housing. In the form shown by Fig. 7, the backing 12 has orifices 17 engaged by projections 18 on the cast-iron housing 10, these projections acting as emergency bearings if the facing 13 is destroyed. Specification 320,314, [Class 12 (i)], is referred to.
