[Class 69 (i)] In a fuel container for aircraft comprising a non-metallic envelope impervious to the fuel and supported on or by a rigid internal structure, the internal structure comprises substantially rigid end frame members defining the shape of the container and one or more substantially rigid intermediate frame members rigidly connected by transverse and/or cross bracing members to the end members, the wall of the fuel-containing envelope adjacent the intermediate members being spaced therefrom and connected thereto by one or more non-metallic inelastic flexible members. As shown, the envelope 3 is supported by hoop-like end members 4, 5, connected by transverse members 8, 9, to intermediate members comprising pairs of angle sections 6, 6a and 7, 7a, strips of fabric 12, 13, being folded to T-section and having their webs secured between the angle sections and their flanges secured to the envelope. Baffles 14, 15, are also secured between the angle sections, which may have their webs directed inwardly. The envelope is provided with an external protective covering such as a layer of swellable rubber secured by adhesive. The T-section strips 12, 13, may be replaced by flexible extensions of double baffles with peripheral flanges. In another form the envelope comprises two or more pieces of material with the adjacent edges flanged inwardly to form a flexible connecting member. In a further form, the flexible spacing means comprises at least two members, integral with or separate from the envelope and disposed on each side of the intermediate frame member to sandwich the latter. The flexible spacing member may be continuous or comprise a number of aligned parts. The internal structure may be of metal, moulded plastic, &c.
