Abstract
565,468. Lifting - jacks. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and LEATHER, G. B. July 6, 1942, No. 9363. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Means for manipulating the folding wings of aircraft comprises a jack device adapted to be temporarily attached between the wing and a fixed part. As shown, the jack comprises a member 3 that screws into the nut part 5 of a cylinder 4 and is detachably secured to the stub and folding wing parts 12, 11 by pegs 9, 10 that enter apertured fillings on these parts and are pivotally connected to the nut 5 and to the thrust collar 6. The jack is driven from the ground by a sprocket and chain 7, 8. The jack may be removed after the folding operation and the wing be retained in position by a jury strut. The jack may be fluidpressure actuated. The device may be applied to aircraft in which the wings fold forwardly or rearwardly instead of upwardly as shown. According to the Provisional Specification, the jaek may be remotely controlled by the pilot from the cockpit.
