Abstract
898,417. Aircraft. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. March 23, 1961 [April 21, 1960], No. 14090/60. Class 4. An aircraft has jets of compressed air directed on to the ground during take-off or landing, the jets being ahead of engines 13 and directed solely to clear the ground of loose debris and to prevent the debris interfering with the operation of the aircraft. The jet nozzles 18, 19, 20, 21, are supplied from the gas turbine engines 13 via valves 24 and pipes 22, 23, the valves being operated in co-ordination with a jet thrust reverser 16 or independently. The jets from nozzles 19, 21 cross and the jets from nozzles 18, 20 direct air steeply on to the ground. The nozzles may be on retractable struts and, in aircraft with engines at the rear of the fuselage, the nozzles 19, 21 are on the under side of the fuselage aft of the nose.
