Abstract
564,191. Film evaporators. DISTILLATION PRODUCTS, Inc. Nov. 13, 1942, No. 16046. Convention date, March 4. [Class 32] In high vacuum stills comprising an evacuated container 8 enclosing a heated rotatable discshaped evaporating surface. 18 and a rotatable condensing surface 34, this latter surface comprises a series of overlapping vanes with spaces therebetween so that on rotation of the vanes condensate collecting thereon is transferred from the surface adjacent the evaporating surface 18 to the opposite surface and from there is flung onto a gutter 36 or as shown in Fig. 2 where a bell-shaped surface is employed, onto the inner wall 60 of the container which acts as a condenser. The condensate collecting in the gutter 36 is withdrawn through a cooler 40 from which part is taken off through line 52 as product while part is recirculated through pump 48 and line 50 to the centre of the rotor 34 as cooling medium. The overlapping construction of the vanes also aids in evacuating gases from the receiver which are drawn off through conduits 56. Specifications 482,883 and 530,367 are referred to.
