[Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] A machine for lifting and transporting complete stacks of flax &c. comprises a frame with laterally spaced members that on wheels can be run in to embrace or contain the stack, and having lifting and lowering means to co-operate with support means under the stack. Tube frame side members 1 supported on wheels 8 are connected by a front frame supported on a steering turntable 7 with closely spaced wheels 6 and draw-bar 9. At the back, hinged at 5A, are gates 5. The top of each side frame consists of a roller 10, with an end wormwheel 11 and a slanting cross shaft 13 has worms to engage the worm wheels one above and one below and an engaging means 14 to take a handle which thus turns the shafts opposite ways to wind on them ropes 15 which are connected to supports under the stack, for example, ropes passed under the stack with loops on the ends for attachment to the ropes 15. To pass the ropes under, a rod is pushed under the stack and the protruding end is engaged in a notched front of a flat triangular box having at the opposite side a pin to take a loop on the support rope, a flanged cover being put over the box before it is hauled back brining the looped end of the support rope. A clamping member 16 on each side is pivoted to the side frames top members and the two are connected by ropes 17 to hold the stack firmly when raised. The free ends of the ropes 15 of each roller may be interconnected and spaced lengthwise by a board or the like.
