Abstract

556,816. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd. April 20, 1942, No. 5220. Convention date, June 21, 1941. [Class 8 (i)] The nozzle of a suction cleaner is formed with a subsidiary nozzle at the end suitable for cleaning next a wall, the flow of air through the nozzles being controllable to put either nozzle in operation. The main nozzle contains a rotary agitator 12 actuated by a separate motor contained in the nozzle and controlled by a switch 39 on the handle. The subsidiary nozzle man contain a non-rotary brush 43 supported by springs which normally lift it from the floor, but. depressible by slide 51 having cam surfaces 53 engaging surfaces on the brush back, which is open to pass the air. The slide is actuated by a pedal 73 and link 77 through a lever ; a second lever controls a valve which connects either nozzle with the suction source ; these two levers are connected by a pin and slot and also by a snap-over spring.
