Abstract

555,076. Hose pipes. WILKINSON, B. April 22, 1942, No. 5384. [Class 99 (ii)] A flexible hose pipe is constructed with a reinforcing-helix of regenerated cellulose embedded in its structure. The Figure shows a hose composed of a core 10 of polyvinyl chloride, upon which is wound a layer 11 of fabric rubberized on its outer face, and then the regenerated cellulose helix 12, followed by a further fabric layer 13 rubberized on both sides, a helix 14 of hemp cord wound between the coils 12 and an external laver of rubberized fabric 15, the whole being afterwards vulcanized. Instead of being rubberized, the cabric layers may be coated with polyvinyl ahloride cement ; or the hose may consist of inner and outer layers of rubber with the helix between them, with or without a fabric layer. For pipes conveying petrol, rubber may be replaced by neoprene or the material sold under the Registered Trade Mark "Thiokol." Specifications 538,171, 550,448 and 551,908 are referred to.
