Abstract

554,075. Knitting-machines. COTTON, Ltd., W., and LYNAM, J. E. Dec. 16, 1941, No. 16200. [Class 74 (ii)] A straight-bar machine is provided with means for effecting a variation in the length of the draw and for rendering the slur-cock incapable of preventing withdrawal of the sinkers at the end of the draw. The draw mechanism may be as described in Specification 537,259 in which the draw-lever 18 is connected to the draw-bar 12 and to the slur box 24 by cross-head devices each of which devices comprises a slide-block 21 moving in a slot in the draw-bar or slur box and pivoted upon a pin 22 mounted upon the draw-lever. To vary the length of the draw. the position of either of the pins 22 is adjusted by mounting it upon a nut 31 engaging a screw 32 rotated in time with the fashioning mechanism by gearing 35 and pawl 41 and rachet wheel 40. The slur-cock 45, or slurcocks in a multi-section machine may be mounted upon a pivoted arm and moved under cam control out of operative position at the end of the draw, or as shown in Fig. 7, they may be slidably mounted and actuated by eccentrics 62, and by rack and pinion gearing 83, 84, 81 upon engagement of a truck 87 in cams 88a, 88b movable with the carrier end stops. Speed control apparatus as described in Specification 548,713 may be provided so that the speed of the machine can be adjusted to maintain the linear speed of the draw substantially constant irrespective of the length of draw.
