Abstract
530,404. Fluid-actuated valves. BRITISH INSULATED CABLES, Ltd., and HOLTTUM, W. June 22, 1939, No. 18236. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXXVI] A cable system with viscous insulating material enclosed in a metal sheath has relief valves and feeding reservoirs connected to the interior of the cable at low and high points, respectively, of the installation to prevent local excessive pressure and to replenish loss of insulator. A suitable relief valve comprises a loaded valve 11 in a chamber 9 of a head 8 the upper part of which is filled with sealing material, a passage 7 leading to the interior of the cable 2 and an outlet passage 14, 12 leading to a moisture-excluding seal, such as a lightly loaded valve 16 delivering to a basin 30 beneath a bell 25.
