Abstract
536,250. Rubber articles. DEWEY & ALMY, Ltd. (Dewey & Almy Chemical Co.). Aug. 30, 1939, No. 24938. [Classes 70 and 87 (ii)] In making formed shapes from aqueous rubber dispersions, the former used is given a preliminary coating of, or containing, a hydrophilic colloid substance such as bentonite which is capable of forming a grossly swollen gel with water or other polar liquid. The colloid substance which is in plastic condition is caused to assume the swollen gel state after the coating of rubber dispersion has been applied to and coagulated on the former, by dipping into water or other polar liquid such as alcohol. The colloid may be applied in the form of an aqueous mixture incorporating a substance capable of coagulating the dispersion. A rubber dispersion and coagulant as described in Specification 534,278 may be used. A hygroscopic substance such as glycerine.may be incorporated in the colloid mixture which is partially dried on the former and acetone or alcohol may also be added so that the mixture becomes sufficiently dehydrated to prevent deposits of bentonite.
