Abstract

534,162. Ambulance vehicles. KENNEDY, D. S., and COSIER, C. Sept. 13, 1939, No. 25712. [Class 108 (i)] A folding carriage for ambulance stretchers comprises in the construction a top b hinge-jointed at c, pairs of side supports f each hinged to the top and to blocks g at the ends of a wheel axle h and pairs of restbars l hinged each to a side member of the supports f. The top comprises side rails bl of angle section connected by transverse members e and on which the side bars of the stretcher a can rest. The supports f are connected by transverse members of X-form. When the carriage is folded, the joint c moves upwardly so that at either side of the vehicle, the rail parts b<SP>1</SP> assume a substantially vertical position side by side with the pair of members f extending parallel to each other in a vertical direction in alignment with the corresponding parts of the rails. In a modification the pair of members f at each side are connected to the upper end of a vertical fork in which a short wheel axle is mounted. A pair of rest-bars l are in this case pivoted each to the transverse members j midway between the sides. In a further construction short axles are mounted each between the lower ends of the members f and of the members j.
