Abstract

521,303. Packing. STEVENSON & SONS, Ltd., H., and STEVENSON, S. Nov. 14, 1938, No. 33050. [Class 94 (i)] A device for protecting the ends of pipes, or of rolls of material such as linoleum or paper, comprises a sleeve 1 having one or more openended slots 3 at one end and an inturned flange 2 adapted to project inwardly over the end of the pipe or roll, the device being secured on the pipe by a fastening which contracts the slotted portion. The sleeve may be made of compressed fibre, cardboard, or like material, and the fastening device may consist of a metal strap 4 which is tightened by a suitable tool and has its ends secured by a metal seal or clip. A shoulder may be provided on the inner surface of the sleeve near the flange 2 when the device is used with a pipe and having a projection or recess. The sleeve may be of polygonal or other form according to the cross section of the pipe or roll.
