[Class 28 (ii)J In a slicing-machine, the oscillating spiked slice conveyer of the slice-stacker is mounted on a shaft carrying a bevel wheel 5a on which a cam 25 is secured and which is driven by a bevel pinion on a shaft 45 driven by a rack on the reciprocating carriage engaging a pinion 46. The discharge fly is mounted on a shaft 34 which is connected by toothed quadrants 32, 28 to a shaft 27 which is urged by a spring 30 to swing the fly through its discharging motion. The fly is raised to its slice-engaging position by a roller-ended arm 47 on the shaft 45 engaging a lever 50 on the shaft 27, the fly being locked in this position by a latch lever 18 which is released by the cam 25 engaging a roller 22. The toothed quadrants may be replaced by a roller and slot connection between the levers 32, 28, in which case a buffer-stop for the lever 28 is provided on the casing 36. The member 61 for impaling the slices on the conveyer comprises a curved plate, slotted for the passage of the spikes, and detachably secured in a bracket 60 on the casing 36. The slots may open into the edge of the plate. The conveyer comprises straight and bent spikes 1, 2 which are secured between spacers 4 on rods 3, the whole being clamped between top and bottom plates 5 by nuts 6, a tube 7 around the central conveyercarrying shaft maintaining the correct spacing of the plates 5. The conveyor is clamped on its shaft by a cap 8 and a locking-screw 9. In a modification, the shaft projects only slightly above the casing 36 and the conveyer is mounted on a horse-shoe shaped bra ket which is secured to the short shaft by a milled knob. In a further modification, a circular ramp, positioned beneath the wheel 5a, is carried by a lever keyed to the fly shaft 34, and is acted upon by a roller, mounted on the underside of the wheel 5a whereby the ramp is, at times, depressed to raise the fly to its slice-receiving position.
