Abstract
500,011. Lethal and anaesthetic chambers. SAUNDERS, M. A. April 4, 1938, No. 10182. (Classes 81 (i) and 81 (ii)] A portable lethal or anµsthetic chamber for small animals comprises a base, collapsahle side walls 8 connecting the base to an upper frame 1, a. lid 5. foldable members 14 connected across the base and upper frame to afford, when extended, rigid supports for the side walls and upper frame, and one or more sealable openings formed in the lid for effecting access to the interior of the device when the lid is closed. The base is formed by a frame 2 to which is fixed a board 3, and the lid by a frame 6 closed by a panel 7. The side walls are formed of non-porous material which may be treated with rubber : the material is carried round the upper and inner walls of frame l, and is secured at its lower part between frame 2 and strips 9. The lid, which is provided with a sealing strip 10 of rubber &c., is hinged to frame 1 and is held in the sealed position by spring fasteners, or by bolts hinged to the frame and provided with wing nuts adapted to engage slotted lugs on the lid. The foldable members 14 are hinged together at 15, and to the frames 1. 2 at 16. The opening 18 in the lid is closed by lid 18a. The opening 18 is large enough for the insertion of the hand. A smaller sealahle opening and an inspection window may also be formed in the lid. The smaller opening may be closed by a rubber cap connected to a pipe for the introduction of lethal or anµsthetic gas, or a pipe connector formed with a tap may be provided in the lid or elsewhere. The lid and / or the base and walls may be lined with a replaceable net. A construction is shown wherein a net is secured across the frame I which is provided with hooks for engagement with eyes on the net. The animal can be placed in a. net before insertion in the chamber, the net being supported by corner hooks. A strap carrier can be secured around the appliance when collapsed.
