504,930. Refining pig-iron and steel. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A. (Rochling'sche Eisen-und Stahlwerke Ges.) Oct. 28, 1937, No. 29520. [Class 72] In the refining of pig-iron and steel by pouring the iron &c. through a thick layer of slag, a molten slag containing soda is poured from a ladle 35 into a pipe 34 and passes into the longer limb 23 of a U-shaped vessel which also has a short limb 24. Molten pig-iron or steel is poured from a ladle 27 and passes down through the molten slag in the limb 23, the purified metal passing into the limb 24, and overflows at 26 into a ladle 28. Spent slag passes off at 25 into a ladle 36.
