Abstract
499,437. Electric heating. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Jan. 18, 1938, No. 1662. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1937. [Class 39 (iii)] Iron, kept molten in a furnace by supplying heat mainly through the bath surface is caused to move around a horizontal axis by polyphase stirring windings arranged in substantially parallel lines beneath the bottom of the furnace. The windings 3, Figs. 1 and 2, of a cylindrical furnace 1, heated by an arc struck between the charge and electrodes 2, extend around the bottom of the furnace and are arranged as a two-pole winding. The current in the winding has a frequency of k/T<2> where T is the linear pole pitch in metres and k has a valve between 1 and 8. The furnace may also be of the open hearth type, and the stirring winding may be provided with an iron core in part or entirely non-laminated.
