[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 14, 1937.] [Class 65 (ii)] A hinge for a metal box comprises a roll portion 9, Fig. 1, formed at the back of the body of the box and a roll portion 11 formed at the back of the lid, interengaged so that the outer roll turns into the inner roll as the lid is opened (as shown dotted), the rolls being partly or entirely recessed into the back of the box and being prevented from disengagement due to longitudinal sliding either by the ends of the recess (which may be the end walls of the box) or by separate means, which may comprise tags or parts bent from or soldered to one of the members. The arrangement of the rolls may be inverted, as shown in Fig. 2, in which the hinge is only partly recessed into the box. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also hinges of similar form but not recessed into the box. In some of these, the roll on the box may be formed from a partly cut-out portion of the back of the box instead of from an extension of its upper edge. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
