Abstract
494,936. Monocoque aircraft fuselages. ARADO FLUGZEUGWERKE GES. March 23, 1938, No. 8861. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1937. [Class 4] [Also in Group XXII] In a monocoque aircraft fuselage of the kind constituted by longitudinal strips connected to each other by riveting or welding, alternate plates are respectively plain and flanged. As applied to a body having a curved generatrix and in which if divided into a number of equal strips, each strip would have the plan form of Fig. 2, alternate strips are made trapezoidal and correspond to what would be obtained by joining the corners 4, 5, 6, 7 of strip B, Fig. 2,. by straight lines. The intermediate strips correspond to strips A and C enlarged by the addition of the material removed from strip B and from the strips on the other side. These two have the form shown in Fig. 4 at 12. The horizontal strips 11 are actually made wider in order to permit of joggling and flanging the longitudinal edges as shown in Fig. 6. The trapezoidal plates may be formed by joggling and flanging machines, in presses, or by rolling. The intermediate plain plates may be produced by sawing or by a recessing or shaping machine.
