486,118. Cutting, &c. vegetables. NEWECZERZAL, A. Nov. 26, 1936, Nos. 32451 and 32452. Convention dates, Nov. 26, 1935 and May 5, 1936. [Class 5 (i)] A device for cutting and slicing vegetables of the type having knives on a stationary plate and on a second plate which can be moved relatively to the first plate, the thickness of cut being adjustable and different knives being provided for cutting into slices, strips or scalloped slices, has the fixed plate 2 secured to two parallel guide rails 1 and carrying a knife 3 facing the knives carried by the movable plate 5. This plate is provided with pivot screws 4 which extend through slots 6 in the guide rails of the frame so that the plate 5 may be swung round on its pivot to present a knife at either end towards the knife 3 and also may be moved directly towards or from the knife 3 to vary the width of the slot 12 between the knives : the vertical distance between the knives may also be adjusted by the movement of a cam or like support 13 for the knife on the movable plate. The movable plate may carry blades 7 for cutting scalloped slices and an interchangeable knife 8 carrying teeth 11 for strip cutting. The vegetable to be cut is held under a clamping member 17 adapted to be traversed in the guides of the device. Instead of mounting the strip cutting knives on the plate 5 they may be mounted on a shaft below the slot 12: this shaft may carry different sets of knives spaced at different distances apart by distance pieces ; the backs of the strip cutting knives serve as a support for the movable plate.
