A bread slicing machine comprises a plurality of knife frames, e.g. three, 1, 2, 3 arranged one behind the other and displaceable relative to each other for adjustment of slice thickness. Cutter frame 1 is stationary and screw spindles 11 are provided to move the others laterally. Each frame comprises a set of pairs of corrugated-edged knives 5, 6 bearing closely against each other and reciprocated in opposite directions by cams 8. The bread is fed through the knives from table 4.
