[Class 36] [Also in Group XL] The lead-in arrangements for a thermionic valve comprise ceramic tubes 1, 2, 3, 5 sealed into the main envelope 4 which may be also ceramic, and metal coatings on the tubes 2, 3, 4, 5 and a wire 8 sealed inside the tube 1 bv glass beads 7, 21. The coating on the tube 4 serves as anode and the other electrodes are connected to the other coatings, all the coatings extending to the outside of the tube so that external connection can be made. In a modification the coated tubes are sealed through the glass pinch of an ordinary envelope. The coatings may be of silver and the ceramic a fired mixture of 50 per cent magnesium oxide and 50 per cent titanium oxide.
