[Class 126] In a continuous combustion stove for solid fuel, the walls of the ash-pit 11, Fig. 1, are insulated against the outward radiation of heat so that immediately beneath the grate 7 there is a heatinsulated space in which the combustion air is preheated by radiation from the firebox, and the total area of the grate surface formed by the spaces between its bars is at least twice, preferably three times, as large as the total area of the grate surface occupied by the bars, so that heat transmission through the grate is facilitated. The grate, which may be made ot a chromium-iron alloy, bulges downwardly at the centre and rests by narrow projections 9 on ledges 10. A ledge 12 constricts the firebox above the grate. A thermostatically actuated valve 15 controls the air supply. The walls of the ash-pit and firebox may be integral or connected by heat-conducting material, to facilitate the passage of heat to the ash-pit. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also passing the air in contact with the outsides of, or through ducts 14 in. the walls of the ash-pit 11, Fig. 3 (Cancelled). Fins 18 are provided. An insulating member 19 separates the walls of the ash-pit and firebox. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
