Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 5, 1935]. [Class 38 (iv)] [See also Group XXXVII] Speed.-For reducing the speed drop of a motor 1, due to increase of load, an auxiliary motor field 5 is connected to the supply in series with an auxiliary dynamo-electric machine 2 coupled to the motor 1, and opposing the supply voltage, the voltages of the supply and the machine 2 being equal when the motor 1 is running on no load. When the load on the motor increases, and its speed falls, the voltage of the machine 2 is reduced, and the motor field 5, opposing the main motor field 4, receives current, so that the drop in motor speed is reduced. A field regulator 6 for the motor 1 is coupled to a regulator 7 for the field 3 of the machine 2, so that the no-load voltage of the machine 2 is correct for the different speed settings. A regulator may be inserted in circuit with the field 5 simultaneously with adjustment of the speed, and the speed drop of the motor increased or reduced as the speed regulation increases. The arrangement also acts to oppose an increase of speed in the higher field-weakening range.
