458,189. Shape retainers for boots and shoes. ELLIS, W. D., 22, Coleshill Road, Teddington, Middlesex. July 18, 1935, No. 20443. [Class 17 (ii)] A device for preventing the deformation of the upper of a boot or shoe around the large joint of the big toe comprises a strip of spring steel or other resilient material curved over at one end b so that it can be placed inside the boot or shoe, transversely of the sole, with the curved end adjacent the joint of the big toe. The device may be provided with integral prongs e, a protective pad d inside the curved portion, and slots c to obtain greater flexibility. The device may be either incorporated in the boot or shoe or inserted independently.
