Abstract
458,092. Soot blowers. SIMPSON, J. W. L., 67, Mostyn Avenue, Littleover, Derby. June 11, 1935, No. 16837. [Class 99 (ii)] A soot blower for a boiler &c. comprises a cleaning-fluid supply tube 1 which is located longitudinally of a bank of tubes 2 and is reciprocated axially during passage of cleaning fluid therethrough, and one or more tubular members or rakes 11 which branch from the supply tube 1 and are provided with two sets 12, 13 of oppositely-disposed nozzles arranged to project cleaning fluid into substantially all the diagonal gaps between the tubes so that a large number of the tubes are swept tangentially each at four points. The rakes 11 are spaced apart a distance approximately equal to or just less than the axial movement of the supply tube, and the whole is suspended from the boiler casing which has secured to it guides 15 for engagement by rollers 14a carried by lugs 14 integral with the said supply tube and rakes. Reciprocation of the supply tube, together with the actuation of a valve for controlling the supply of cleaning fluid thereto, may be effected by the blower tube advancing and retracting mechanism described in Specification 456,718 or by hand.
