Abstract
1,013,049. Soot blowers. DIAMOND POWER SPECIALTY Ltd. Sept. 14, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 38329/63. Heading F2N. A soot-blower of the long retracting lance type has means to induce the cleaning fluid to flow in a turbulent manner along the walls of the lance tube 1. The blower has a fixed feed-tube 2 to which air or steam is supplied through a valve (Fig. 1) to be discharged into the lance tube. Turbulence may be induced by a nozzle 3 with vanes 4 at the end of the tube 2 and/or one or more sleeves situated inside the tube 2, the sleeves being of expanded metal as in Fig. 4 or formed as a series of rings 6, as in Fig. 5, supported away from the tube walls by rods 7. The turbulent fluid assists in cooling the lance tube.
