Abstract

[Class 35] [See also Group II] A centrifugal bowl 2 is driven by an electric motor 4, of which the rotor is mounted on the bowl shaft 3 and the stator is steadied by bands 7 attached to the casing by means of pegs 8. The three bands 7 shown in Fig. 2 may be replaced by one continuous band which passes round the pegs 8, or each band may be replaced by a continuous band looped round a lug on the stator. The bands are of elastic material or they may have elastic ends with non-elastic central portions. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, a pair of looped bands 14 are employed, each band passing round the motor and one supporting peg 8. A second pair of bands may be arranged at right angles to the first pair. A number of these supporting bands may be arranged radially between the motor 4 and the casing as shown by the bands 17, Fig. 10. The bands may have eyelets to slip over pins, or have thickened ends to slip into grooves. Frictional material 22, Fig. 12, may be placed between the bands and the motor casing, and the bands may be arranged to engage an element rotatably attached to the motor. The motor casing is extended to form a pivot 21 working in a recess in the supporting frame lined with a frictional element.
