455,401. Lifting and handling motor vehicles. DELALANDRE, C. M., 98, Boulevard de Versailles, Suresnes, Seine, France. Oct. 2, 1935, Nos. 27179 and 27180. Convention dates, Oct. 3, 1934 and Sept. 19, 1935. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] Lifting-apparatus, more especially for handling motor cars, comprises an upright, a jib, an actuating-device for the jib, and means adapted to attach both the jib and the actuating-device or the actuating-device only, in various selected positions to the upright. Fig. 1 shows a jib 10 and hand-operated wormdriven screw luffing-gear 14 both carried by a member 7 provided with two double hooks 8 so that it can be hooked to a selected pair of rungs 5 on the ladder-like standard 3 carried by the wheeled base 1. The member 7 can be hooked to one pair of rings in any of four positions, so that the jib projects to either side of the standard with the luffing-gear either above or below it. The wheels 2 are either casters or plain wheels, but an axle 6 is provided to receive rubber-tyred vehicle wheels for transporting the appliance as a trailer over long distances. Fig. 8 shows the appliance with the post fitted to or fixed on the rear of a vehicle ; a member 31 carrying a wheel-engaging clamp being slung from the end of the jib. Fig. 9 shows a variation of the latter construction in which the jib 10 is attached near the bottom of the standard and is used as a lever jack to engage the axle. The rib in this case is reversed so that the luffing-gear is above it. In some cases the jib is pivoted on the frame of the vehicle and the luffing-gear is attached to selective points on the upright.
