[Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXI] A member C fixed to a driving shaft 2 carries a pivoted pawl 6 adapted to be moved into engagement with internal teeth of a driven drum B by means of a crank E fixed on a shaft 5 extending longitudinally through the member C and provided with an operating handle G, the crank co-operating with a pin 7 on the pawl and a stop F on the member C. The crank passes slightly beyond dead-centre position, so as to maintain the pawl engaged with the drum. The application to a coal-cutting machine is described, there being a haulage drum B driven from the shaft 2 at each side of the machine. Upon disengagement of the pawl, reverse rotation of the drum may be prevented by a check pawl K or be controlled by a hand brake H. Specification 329,466, [Class 80 (iii)], is referred to.
