Abstract

430,909. Drying or conditioning fibrous material. SPOONER, W. W., Ashbrook, Grove Road, Ilkley, Yorkshire. Dec. 22, 1933, No. 36079. [Classes 29 and 34 (i)] A method of drying or conditioning textile fabric, paper or like fibrous material in web or sheet form consists in conveying the material in surface contact with a smooth imperforate endless metal band or conveyer, and imparting heat to, or absorbing heat from, the material by conduction through the band. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the material to be treated is conveyed on the upper run 10 of an endless metal band 11 which runs through a chamber 16 enclosed by diaphragms 17, 18 forming part of casings 19, 20. The diaphragms have nozzles 25, 26 through which drying air is forced by means of a fan 28, the air passing first through a heater 21. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, two reservoirs for drying fluid are provided above the endless band and two below, those above being connected to a fan 37, and those below to a fan 37<1>. Each reservoir has a separate heater. The Provisional Specification refers also to similar treatment for textile fibre.
