Abstract
439,469. Road vehicles. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO., 11631, Mack Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Tjaarda, J. Beverly Road, Birmingham, Michigan, U.S.A.) June 17, 1935, No. 17400. Convention date, July 20, 1934. [Class 108 (i)] [See also Group XXXI] A combined body and chassis frame is arranged so that the stresses are transmitted to definite points fore and aft of the tonneau or body. As shown a central truss member 10 has secured thereto transverse spaced members 11, 12, 13 to the ends of which are secured the front, middle and rear pillars 14, 17, 20. The pillars are also joined by roof rails 67, 68 and by transverse upper members 16, 19 which are interbraced by struts 23, 24. The front pillars 14 have a belt member 35 to which is secured the dash 35<a>. The central truss member is bifurcated at the rear to serve as an engine mounting. The front pillars are connected forwardly by struts 25, 27 to a point 29 on the central truss member and the rear pillars 20 are braced by struts 30 to the rear of the forked members 10<a> 10<b>. The upper ends of the pillars 20 are connected to the same points by roof rails 52, and struts 32. The rear ends of the forked members 10<a>, 10<b> are connected by an arched member 51 and by a transverse member 34. The front wheels are mounted on a transverse spring member 38. The central truss member 10 comprises two semicircular pressed steel members 75, 76, Fig. 5, with interposed member 80. The transverse members 12 &c. secured to the truss member as shown and a floor pan 46 is provided.
