436,273. Houses formed of hinged panels. PERRY, H. W., 4, Lawson's Road, Trichinopoly, South India. Feb. 23, 1935, No. 5859. Convention date, Feb, 23, 1934. [Class 20 (i)] A box-like structure or house which can be taken to the building site in collapsed condition comprises a roof frame and side frames which are hinged to the roof frame and provided with extensions 19 to the side members to enter the ground on erection. The roof frame may be flat or ridged and is formed of side members 10-13 with diagonal stiffeners 27 at the corners. The side frames are each formed of side members and a lower frame member 16 and diagonal stiffeners are provided diverging from the ends of the lower member 16 the arrangement of the stiffeners being such that when the house is erected the stiffeners at each corner form the base of a triangular pyramid with the corner as the apex. The members of each frame are made of wood, iron, or reinforced concrete, and the walls are formed of panels of wood or reinforced concrete or the like. Suitable apertures to provide door and window spaces are provided in the side panels. Boxlike constructions such as these may be placed side by side or superposed to afford the required accommodation. The structure is stated to withstand earthquake shocks.
