Abstract
423,046. Security paper. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I., Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A. July 24, 1933, No. 20880. Convention date, July 22, 1932. [Class 96] Paper, parchment, &c., for cheques, deeds, &c. is made sensitive to ink - eradicating chemicals, by incorporating with the paper pulp in the beating-engine, or by adding to paper, in solution or in suspension with sizing materials, or by dipping, or during calendering, an aminoarylothiazole having the general formula in which R represents an o-arylene group which may be unsubstituted or may carry substituents, e.g. halogens, alkyl, alkoxyl, amino, nitro, and sulphonic groups, and A represents hydrogen, or an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aryl or alkaryl group ; salts of the above may bo used, e.g. the hydrochloride, hydrobromide, sulphate, phosphate, formate, acetate, or oxalate. The unsubstituted amino compounds, i.e. those in which A represents hydrogen are preferred because of their greater solubility and fastness to light. Examples of benzthiazoles and #-naphthathiazoles which are stated to be particularly satisfactory are given.
